Adam Said Galore

Formed in Perth in 1994, back seven or so years ago, four friends with no agenda and nothing to lose started this thing that soon came to be known as Adam Said Galore. Instead of sitting down taking notes, they simply let loose their own aberrant tones. They didn't much care for the curse of isolation that prevailed or copying some cheap facsimile of a scene or sound with an airmail sticker attached to it. Their sound made sense of the disparity of distance that Perth, Western Australia ensures.

Adam Said Galore's 1998 debut mini-album, Domino Comfort was recorded in the confines of the abandoned Fremantle Prison, before releasing their long-awaited full-length The Driver is Red in 2001 through Jebediah's own Redline Records. Meanwhile, Adam Said Galore are looking to release a brand new album in early 2008.

Ammonia

First known as 'Fuzzswirl', this Perth three-piece were formed in 1992 before changing their name to Ammonia in 1993 on the inception of a new permanent bassist. In 1994 the band became the first band to sign to Sony's Murmur Label with whom they released the highly successful EP In A Box. Their 1995 follow-up Sleepwalking enabled the band to cross over to commercial radio before their breakthrough debut album Mint 400 generating global album sales of 100,000 and saw their single 'Drugs' on high rotation on MTV.

Taking a distinctive change of direction, Ammonia recorded their second album Eleventh Avenue in New York, which was released in 1997 before the tensions generated by heavy touring led the band to announce their separation in 1998. They played their very last show at the Perth Big Day Out in 1999.

The Avenues

Two EPs down. One killer debut album ready to roll. Life for The Avenues is about to get busy.

Formed in 2003, The Avenues have made a name as one of Perth's best exponents of melodic rock. Their live shows are tight and captivating, with a powerful dynamic presence. Playing with some of Australia's top acts plus touring nationally and internationally over the past three years has helped harden their gig feet that are going to carry them on up that hill. Their forthcoming debut album All That You Are marks the beginning of the next phase of the existence of The Avenues, with the recording marking both new song-writing styles for the band and a new depth. With a more layered and lush sound, and an almost darker edge to the album it shows a side of the Avenues that will surprise many, yet delight even more.

Baby Animals

Lead singer Suze DeMarchi (pronounced d-mar-key) started out in local pubs in Perth long before the Baby Animals ever existed. But after four years as a solo artist in London and signed to EMI, Suze returned to Australia to form a band with fellow Perth musicians Frank Celenza and bassist Eddy Parise. The band played its first gig in Sydney in 1989.

After signing to Imago Records in 1990 the Baby Animals flew to New York to record their self-titled debut. On its release in '91 singles 'Early Warning' and 'Rush You' became chart hits, before the album eventually went eight times platinum. The following two years saw the band tour with Bryan Adams and Van Halen. By 1993 the Baby Animals had released a second album Shaved and Dangerous but after their label folded in 1995 the band has been on extended hiatus since 1997 with a planned return somewhere in the near future.

Birds Of Tokyo

If you take a scalpel to any great band of any style, the symptoms of their greatness are always in their songwriting. There's something magical within it - lurking just behind the notes, the structures, and the sentiments -something inexplicably magnetic. Like most great outfits Birds Of Tokyo was formed, somewhat innocently, by a handful of friends. The chemistry this friendship brings governs and shapes them, but as individuals, the members of Birds Of Tokyo are all as accomplished as each other.

Fronted by Ian Kenny -the bombastic singer known Australia-wide as the voice of Karnivool -Birds Of Tokyo are made up, not only of musicians and supporters of the ever-blossoming Perth music scene, but as producers and respected figures of what is now an emerging industry. With equal focus on songwriting, live performance, and studio output; Birds Of Tokyo's ambition has always been for their good to be better, and their better to be best.

The Blackeyed Susans

In it's earliest incarnation the Blackeyed Susans was formed in Perth in 1989 as a side project for Martha's Vineyard, Chad's Tree and the Triffids members, including the late great Dave McComb.

They played eight gigs and recorded four songs before their "day jobs" forced them to put the project on hold. The songs became their first EP, Some Births are Worse than Murders, released in 1990 on Waterfront Records . Acclaimed by music critics natoinally and in the UK the record spent several weeks at No. l on the independent charts in Australia.

By the time the recordign was released, the band had already undergone several incarnations. Not everyone took their holidays at the same time, so a floating line-up became an integral part of the band's character and appeal. Now based in Victoria, Rob Snarski remains the core of the band which has many notable musicians includng Kim Salmon, Martyn Casey and Dave McCormack among others.

Bob Evans

In late 2004, Kevin Mitchell - vocalist/guitarist for beloved Australian indie pop outfit Jebediah - was in the midst of touring his band's Braxton Hicks album when an old friend came a' calling. The year prior, under the guise of `Bob Evans, Mitchell had released a low key solo LP, Suburban Kid, an acclaimed debut that showcased another, more intimate side of his song writing ability. With the cycle of touring nearing an end, Mitchell felt compelled not only to revisit the moods and mode of Bob Evans, but to exceed it on what would become the follow-up album.

Follow-up Suburban Songbook is an album of songs about home by someone who spends a lot of time away from it and Mitchell admits to being unashamedly nostalgic.

Of the freedom afforded by this more low key musical persona Kev says, “I think Bob Evans is more me than Kevin Mitchell from Jebediah is! In that way its like a reverse alter-ego.”
